現在のChristian Church/Church of Christ/Disciples（本邦ではキリストの教会有楽器派・キリストの教会無楽器派とディサイプルス）は旧大陸から背負って来た宗派・連盟・教団などからの脱却を目指して、米国で南北戦争以前に始まった運動（初代教会への復帰運動）であり、米国でも日本でも、各個教会がキリストを頭とする独立自治の教会であって、いかなるレベルでも本部などという組織をもたない。
キリストの教会の設立文書とも言えるトーマス・キャンプベルの宣言および提言（Declaration and Address）（1809年）は3つの概念にまとめられる13の提言から成り立っています。
その要点は
(1)キリストの体なる教会の中に分派のあることの罪深さ、
(2)聖書の教理（教義）の唯一の基準としての充分性、
(3)キリストの精神の現れとして不可欠な愛と寛容の必要性、です。
The founding document of the movement, Thomas Campbell’s Declaration and Address, was written in September 1809 and consisted of thirteen propositions grouped around three concepts: (1) the sinfulness of divisions within the body of Christ; (2) the sufficiency of the Bible as the only standard for doctrine; (3) the necessity of love and forbearance as essential manifestations of Christian spirit.
